The Transfer Experience with Zaria

Segment #4 from Florida A&M University

Transcript

Greetings, and welcome to the Hill. I come from a household where my mom and my stepdad are my biggest supporters. As a transfer student at Florida A&M University, I came seeking opportunities, and I found a community that pushed me to lead, advocate, and create, and step fully into my purpose. In the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication, I was immediately surrounded by people and pathways that helped me grow.

As Miss Transfer Student Association, I advocate for transfer students to help them create a stronger sense of belonging on campus. FAMU’s 2+2 program makes the transition smooth and intentional. My advice is to come in, get involved, use your voice, and take advantage of every opportunity. Transferring schools isn’t starting your journey over, it’s evolving to something greater.

At FAMU, I’ve been able to turn my passion into real experience. In my internship with Oak View Group, a sports and entertainment company, I helped plan major homecoming events and connected HBCU students to their future careers. I’ve also had the opportunity to work NBA All-Star Weekend, One MusicFest, and supported major live events through media and production.

I’ve collaborated with industry leaders and even engaged with artists like Usher and John Legend. FAMU didn’t just prepare me, it placed me in rooms I once only dreamed about. FAMU taught me how to lead, advocate, and confidently take up any space in any industry. Soon, I’ll be graduating with a strong network, real industry experience, and clear pathways to media and entertainment.

Being a transfer student didn’t hold me back, it elevated me. Life’s not about how you start the race, it’s how you finish. That’s a wrap on my story. Bye, y’all.
