The College Tour respects the privacy of students, families, counselors, educators, and other visitors who use our website and services.

This Privacy Policy describes how The College Tour collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you visit TheCollegeTour.com, use Find Your College Fit, watch our content, interact with college Tour Pages, submit a request for information, or otherwise interact with our services (collectively, the “Service”).

Find Your College Fit is designed to help students explore colleges and universities based on their interests, preferences, goals, and engagement with college-related content.

We do not require students to agree to be contacted by colleges or universities in order to use Find Your College Fit.

Where we offer students the opportunity to connect with colleges or universities through Find Your College Fit, we will ask for the applicable permission before sharing their contact information with those institutions.

Certain college Tour Pages also contain Request Info forms. When you submit one of these forms, your information is automatically sent to the college or university featured on that Tour Page and may also be stored within The College Tour’s website systems, including WordPress, as described below.

1. WHO WE ARE

For purposes of this Privacy Policy:

Company, The College Tour, we, us, or our refers to The College Tour.

Website refers to TheCollegeTour.com.

Find Your College Fit or FYCF refers to our college discovery experience that helps students explore colleges based on their interests, preferences, and engagement.

Tour Page refers to a page on TheCollegeTour.com dedicated to a particular college or university, including pages for The College Tour Featured and Spotlight partners. Tour Pages may include forms that allow users to request information from the featured institution.

Personal Data means information that identifies, relates to, describes, or could reasonably be linked with an individual.

Usage Data means information collected automatically when someone interacts with the Service.

2. INFORMATION WE MAY COLLECT

Depending on how you use the Service, we may collect the following categories of information.

Information You Provide

Information Submitted Through College Tour Pages

Some Tour Pages include Request Info forms that allow you to request information from the college or university featured on that page.

When you submit a Tour Page Request Info form, the information you provide is automatically sent to an email address designated by that specific college or university.

A copy of the form submission may also be stored within The College Tour’s website systems, including WordPress.

The College Tour does not routinely review Tour Page form submissions. We may access stored submissions when reasonably necessary to operate or administer the Service, troubleshoot form or delivery issues, respond to privacy or support requests, maintain security, comply with legal obligations, or for other legitimate operational purposes described in this Privacy Policy.

3. FIND YOUR COLLEGE FIT INFORMATION

When you use Find Your College Fit, we may collect information about your college preferences and interests.

This may include information such as:

  • Areas of academic interest
  • Intended majors or fields of study
  • Preferred college or university characteristics
  • Geographic preferences
  • Campus size preferences
  • Campus environment or lifestyle preferences
  • College types that interest you
  • Colleges or content you choose to explore
  • Your responses within the Find Your College Fit experience

We use this information to provide and improve your Find Your College Fit experience and to help identify colleges, universities, content, and educational opportunities that may be relevant to you.

Your results are intended as a college exploration tool. They are not an admissions decision, guarantee of admission, academic assessment, or determination that a particular college is necessarily right for you.

4. HOW YOU INTERACT WITH COLLEGE CONTENT

We may collect information about how users interact with college-related content on the Service.

For example, we may collect information about:

  • College pages viewed
  • Videos or student stories viewed
  • Amount of time spent with certain content
  • Links selected
  • Colleges saved or explored
  • Find Your College Fit recommendations viewed
  • Inquiry or information-request actions
  • General engagement with the Service

We may use this information to improve recommendations, understand what students find useful, improve Find Your College Fit, measure engagement, and develop new features.

5. CONNECTING WITH COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

The College Tour provides different ways for users to connect with colleges and universities. How your information is handled depends on how you choose to make that connection.

Tour Page Information Requests

The College Tour provides dedicated Tour Pages for participating colleges and universities, including Featured and Spotlight partners.

Some Tour Pages allow you to request information from the college or university featured on that page.

When you submit a Request Info form, the information you enter is automatically sent to the email address designated by the college or university featured on that Tour Page. A copy of the submission may also be stored within The College Tour’s website systems, including WordPress.

By submitting the form, you are requesting information from the identified college or university.

The receiving institution may use the information you provide to contact you about admissions, academic programs, campus visits, events, applications, financial aid, and other educational or promotional opportunities.

The College Tour does not provide the information submitted through a Tour Page Request Info form to other colleges or universities unless you separately request or authorize us to do so.

Once your information is received by the college or university, that institution’s own privacy policy and practices apply to its collection, use, retention, protection, and other processing of your information.

Find Your College Fit

Find Your College Fit may separately provide opportunities for students to connect with participating colleges and universities.

Using Find Your College Fit does not automatically give colleges or universities permission to contact you.

When applicable, we will provide you with a choice about whether you want your contact information shared with participating colleges or universities.

If you choose to allow colleges to contact you, The College Tour may provide participating institutions with information you have authorized us to share, which may include:

  • Your name
  • Email address
  • Phone number, if provided
  • Graduation year
  • Location
  • Academic interests
  • College preferences
  • Information indicating your interest in or engagement with an institution

A college or university receiving your information may contact you about admissions, academic programs, financial aid, campus visits, events, applications, and other educational or promotional opportunities.

Once information has been provided to a college or university at your request or with your permission, that institution’s own privacy practices will also apply to its use and retention of your information.

You do not have to authorize colleges or universities to contact you in order to use Find Your College Fit.

6. USAGE DATA

Certain information may be collected automatically when you use the Service, including:

  • Internet Protocol address
  • Browser type
  • Device type
  • Operating system
  • Pages visited
  • Date and time of visits
  • Time spent on pages
  • Referring pages
  • Unique device identifiers

Tour Page Information Requests

When you submit a Request Info form on a college or university Tour Page, the information you submit is automatically sent to the email address designated by that specific institution.

The College Tour does not provide information submitted through a Tour Page Request Info form to other colleges or universities unless you separately request or authorize us to do so.

Find Your College Fit

Through Find Your College Fit, we may share identifiable student information with participating colleges and universities when the student has requested the connection or otherwise provided the applicable permission.

Service Providers

We may provide information to trusted companies that help us operate the Service, including providers supporting:

  • Website hosting
  • Website and form functionality
  • Database infrastructure
  • Analytics
  • Email communications and delivery
  • Security
  • Customer support
  • Video delivery
  • Product development

Service Providers are permitted to process information for the purposes for which we engage them, subject to our agreements with them.

Legal Requirements

We may disclose information when required by law, legal process, court order, or a valid government request, or when reasonably necessary to protect the safety, rights, property, or security of The College Tour, our users, or others.

Business Transactions

10. CHILDREN’S AND TEEN PRIVACY

The College Tour and Find Your College Fit are designed primarily for teenagers exploring future college opportunities, as well as parents, families, counselors, and educators.

Children Under 13

Find Your College Fit is not intended for children under 13 to provide Personal Data independently.

We do not knowingly collect Personal Data from children under 13 without the consent required by applicable law.

If we learn that we have collected Personal Data from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Parents or guardians who believe that a child under 13 has provided Personal Data to us should contact us using the information provided below.

Teen Users

We recognize that teenagers deserve additional privacy protections.

We seek to collect only information reasonably necessary to provide and improve our college discovery services.

We will not require a student to consent to receiving communications from colleges or universities as a condition of using Find Your College Fit.

Where applicable law requires additional consent for certain uses, sales, or sharing of Personal Data belonging to users under 16, we will obtain the required authorization before engaging in such activity.

11. DATA RETENTION

We retain Personal Data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, including providing and administering the Service, processing information requests, maintaining records, troubleshooting technical issues, complying with legal obligations, resolving disputes, preventing fraud, and enforcing agreements.

Tour Page Request Info submissions may be stored within our website systems, including WordPress, for a period reasonably necessary for these purposes.

We may retain aggregated or de-identified information for analytics, research, and product improvement.

We periodically evaluate whether Personal Data continues to be necessary and may delete or de-identify information that is no longer reasonably needed.

Colleges and universities that receive information from users determine their own retention practices in accordance with their policies and applicable law.

However, no internet transmission, database, email delivery, or electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Colleges and universities that receive Personal Data through Tour Page Request Info forms or through Find Your College Fit are responsible for protecting the information they receive in accordance with their own privacy and security practices and applicable law.

13. YOUR PRIVACY CHOICES

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your Personal Data.

These may include the right to:

  • Request access to information we maintain about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of certain information
  • Opt out of certain uses or sharing of information
  • Withdraw certain permissions you previously provided

You may contact us to exercise applicable privacy rights regarding Personal Data maintained by The College Tour.

Students may choose not to authorize colleges or universities to contact them through Find Your College Fit while continuing to use Find Your College Fit.

If you have already submitted information to a college or university through a Tour Page Request Info form, requests concerning that institution’s subsequent use, correction, or deletion of the information should also be directed to that institution.

14. CALIFORNIA PRIVACY RIGHTS

California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act.

Depending on how the law applies to our activities, these rights may include rights to:

  • Know what categories of Personal Data we collect
  • Know how Personal Data is used and disclosed
  • Request access to certain Personal Data
  • Request deletion
  • Request correction
  • Opt out of certain sales or sharing of Personal Data
  • Limit certain uses of sensitive Personal Data

When you submit information to a college or university through a Tour Page Request Info form, the institution’s own privacy practices apply to its subsequent use and retention of the information it receives.

We encourage users and families to review the privacy policies of colleges, universities, and other third-party services they choose to interact with.

16. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy as The College Tour, our Tour Pages, and Find Your College Fit evolve.

When we make changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this Privacy Policy.

If we make material changes to how we use Personal Data, we may provide additional notice or request consent where required by law.
