Segment #7 from Concordia University Wisconsin
Transcript
Let’s check in with Ben, an education major who embraced every opportunity to have a well-rounded college experience at CUW. From being a student athlete to experiential learning while studying abroad to creating and organizing a new club right here on campus, Ben welcomed opportunities to develop leadership skills and friendships that will last a lifetime. Ben, tell us how this college experience helped you achieve your personal goals. Please take it away.
– Thanks, Alex. Growing up, I loved playing sports, so when it came to making my college decision, I knew I had to go someplace where I could stay active and get involved. After graduating high school and leaving the Chicagoland area, I found Concordia University, where I was given all of the opportunities of a large college with a close knit atmosphere of a small private university. When I started at Concordia, the very first thing I did was join the men’s volleyball team. Becoming a captain on that team and living on campus has allowed me to make lifelong friends. With over 1500 residents living on campus, there is always something to do with someone at Concordia. As a resident assistant, I’ve had the chance to make awesome connections and build a great community in my hall through tons of fun events. I feel like we’ve done it all, from video game nights to canned food drives, to even glow in the dark Bingo. One of the most rewarding communities I’m a part of here is one I actually helped create, the Falcon Bowling Club. We host events once a month where over 150 Concordia students come out and bowl. This experience has helped me develop leadership skills, and I consider this club my pride and joy. I love the Bowling Club so much that I even brought my Falcon Bowling flag with me when I studied abroad across Europe last summer. Studying Renaissance history while immersing myself in Italian culture has been one of my life’s most memorable experiences, and I couldn’t have done it without the help of the advisors at Concordia Center for International Education. Being a student at CUW means you’ll have plenty of opportunities to get involved, make tons of friends, and maybe even see the world. I’ve made connections here that will last a lifetime and there’s no place I’d rather be. With that, I’ll roll it back to you, Alex.
– Ben, your story highlights what makes CUW’s campus life so exciting. Students can explore their interests, take on new challenges, and build a community far beyond the campus borders through the arts, music ensembles, theater ministry groups, community service projects, or global missions, CUW empower students to the fullest. Thanks again, Ben.
