Transcript

Let me introduce you to Samantha, a communications major who has used many campus resources to navigate her first year at LACC. Los Angeles City College is focused on providing extensive services and resources to its students so they can thrive inside and outside of the classroom. Tell us more, Samantha.

– Thanks, Alex. Hello, everyone! When I first started college, I found it hard and I was a bit uninspired, which resulted in me dropping out. Now, 10 years later, I have fallen in love with learning and I realize that I wanna use my words to help others. I have plans to start my own organization that helps people connect better with themselves and others, and that’s why I chose Los Angeles City College to study for business admin and communications. I chose LACC because I saw a billboard one day that read LACC is the city’s college, and I love Los Angeles, so I looked into it. Since my first counselor meeting, I was convinced this was my school. My counselor, Ms. Gomez, really listened to what it is that I want to achieve, and she helped me schedule my classes for the next two years. She really made me feel at ease coming back and assured me that a community college was best for me to get back on an educational path. I do need to give thanks to a program that’s been such a huge part in my time here at LACC, and that’s Fresh Success. They’ve helped by providing me with a laptop, a voucher for school supplies and books, and even assistance for gas. Some other reasons why I really love LACC are my professors are so helpful. And I joined the speech and debate team, which makes me feel like I have found where I can really shape my talents. Becoming a student here really feels right. This is where I’m meant to be and I’ve never felt more sure. I plan to transfer to a four year university to continue on with a bachelor’s in communications, but until then, I’m going to enjoy every moment that I have here at LACC and a huge thank you to everyone who’s a part of my journey. And that’s my story, Alex.

Your dedication to helping others and your passion for learning is commendable. It’s so wonderful to see how LACC has been able to support you on this amazing journey. Thank you, Samantha.
