College of Pharmacy with Landon

Segment #8 from Southwestern Oklahoma State University

Transcript

It’s time to hear from Landon, a graduate student from Choctaw, Oklahoma, pursuing his Doctor of Pharmacy at SWOSU. Landon’s interest in pharmacy began in high school, and it brought him to SWOSU’s College of Pharmacy. So, Landon, what’s been keeping you busy lately? Take it away.

– Thanks, Alex. Hey, everyone. Ever since my freshman year in high school, I wanted to pursue a career in pharmacy. And I knew that SWOSU’s College of Pharmacy was the place for me. At SWOSU, I have made connections both professionally and personally that will last a lifetime through the many pharmacy organizations I was involved with: pharmacy organizations like the American Pharmacists Association, or APhA; and Phi Delta Chi, or PDC, the professional pharmacy fraternity, along with research, have been highlights of my time at SWOSU. Through APHA, I presented research posters at national conferences and met other students with similar interests from all over the country. In PDC, I made lifelong friendships on campus with students passionate about community service. All of our organizations on campus have faculty involvement allowing us to get to know our faculty personally. This is crucial to the education you will get here as a student. They really get involved and show that they care for you as an individual. This dedication to students even extends to the design of the new Jerry and Margaret Hodge Pharmacy and Rural Health Center on SWOSU’s campus. Our campus hosts many events from raising money for St. Jude Hospital to social events for students. Along with those, the university offers multiple opportunities to travel and explore the world. I personally went to Greece and traveled throughout Europe. And the College of Pharmacy helps to organize a yearly trip to Panama to provide medical services to remote underserved areas, primarily paid for from student fundraising efforts. The opportunities I’ve had at SWOSU have been amazing. From community pharmacies and hospitals to research, the possibilities are endless. I cannot wait to get started on my career. And that’s all I’ve got. Back to you, Alex.

– Landon, your involvement in pharmacy organizations like the American Pharmacists Association and Phi Delta Chi truly shows the amazing networking opportunities here. Your experience gives us a look into campus life, supportive faculty-student relationships, and the many available opportunities. It’s clear you’ve been making the most out of your time at SWOSU. Keep it up, Landon.
