My Pharmacy FAMUly with Maggie
Segment #5 from Florida A&M University
Transcript
Hey, y’all. Florida A&M University was my only choice for pharmacy school, because staying close to home was a big deal for me. I grew up in a small town in Southwest Georgia, where everyone knows and helps each other, and I get that same feeling here at the FAMU College of Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health.
I knew that getting accepted to FAMU meant commuting daily, and I was okay with that. Commuting allows me to stay close to my family and friends. I’m fortunate enough that my grandparents are still here with me, and spending time with them is huge, and FAMU gave me that opportunity. Plus, FAMU is worth the daily 90-minute one-way commute, which I use to unwind after my classes.
Then, when I get home, I hit the ground running on studying or doing assignments. Being at FAMU makes me feel right at home. I’ve gained a whole new support system through my classmates, professors, and staff. I also met two of my best friends in my pharmacy cohort, and we’ve been inseparable since day one of the program.
From study groups, food runs, rant sessions, and engagements, we support each other through life’s biggest moments. FAMU has prepared me to be the best pharmacist that I can be. My goals upon graduation are to pass my board exams on my first attempt, get married, and work at a retail pharmacy close to home.
I’m grateful for my FAMU experience, because here, everyone wants to see everyone succeed, and that’s what it’s all about: cheering each other on, lifting each other up, and being one big, happy family. That’s a little bit about me. Thanks for listening.
