A Passion for Community with Elijah

Segment #4 from Indiana State University

Transcript

Hey, everyone. Growing up in Terre Haute, I made a lot of connections through my local community, and that really shaped what I wanted for myself. I became an entrepreneur in high school, and that pushed me to study business. Music’s always been a big part of my life, too. I grew up singing, running sound, and eventually playing the piano in church, and that led me to create a faith-based clothing brand and music production business called Product of Passion.

When I was deciding where to go to college, Indiana State University stood out because I could see that it really supports student entrepreneurs. Through the Scott College of Business, the career center, pitch competitions, student markets, and the small business development center, I saw that there were real opportunities here to keep building what I had already started.

What made Indiana State feel like the right fit for me, though, was the kind of community I found here. I’ve had the chance to take on leadership roles in student government, NAACP, and the Networks program. Those experiences have allowed me to connect with students and to speak up for them. That’s where I’ve really seen how much Indiana State values student voices and wants people to grow here.

For me, this has been more than just a place where I’m getting my degree. It’s where I’ve been able to keep building the things I care about, meet people who support me, and find opportunities I probably would not have had otherwise. It’s helped me grow in ways that go beyond the classroom, and that has made a real difference in the direction I want my life to go.

That’s my story. Thanks for watching.
