Amazing Experiences Beyond the Classroom with Corey
Segment #3 from Indiana State University
Transcript
Hi everyone, I want to tell you about my first day at Indiana State University. I had just moved in and my family had gone home. Two students, Susie and Sean, knocked on my door and invited me to play sand volleyball with other honors students. Almost four years later, sand volleyball is my favorite sport and they are two of my best friends.
Honors also freed up classes in my study plan, provided me with great scholarships and helped me learn to communicate professionally. It even encouraged me to study abroad. I’ve had incredible experiences overseas, including walking the Monaco racing track and, unbelievably, attending Pope Francis’s funeral in the Vatican.
Thanks to these relationships and extra-curricular experiences, I’m ready to enter my career and the wider world with confidence and ambition. Indiana State is the perfect Goldilocks campus, with opportunities that rival those of a larger university, but the small class sizes of a private college. It’s just right.
And the Bailey College of Engineering and Technology has provided me with many opportunities beyond the classroom. I’m currently a research assistant studying US energy distribution. I also interned with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. The Bailey College even offered to help fund my honors thesis project, something I never would’ve expected as an undergraduate student.
Getting involved in the Bailey College has provided me with a competitive resume and portfolio. I’ll graduate from Indiana State as an engineer with work and research experience, who has also led organizations and traveled the world. I couldn’t have had these experiences anywhere else. Thank you for letting me share my story.
