Affordability, Scholarships, and Financial Support with Mackenzie
Segment #2 from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
Transcript
Healthcare has always been deeply personal to me. Growing up with type one diabetes showed me firsthand how compassionate physicians and supportive communities can truly change lives. These experiences inspired me to pursue healthcare and ultimately led me to Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.
As I explored medical schools, I knew that I wanted a program that valued service and accessibility. LECOM stood out to me, not only due to its commitment to affordability, but its mission to prepare physicians to serve their communities through service and empathy. Financial support has also made a meaningful impact on my experience so far, allowing me to focus not only on my academics, but as well as the community events that matter most to me.
I’ve had experiences like volunteering at diabetes camps, participating in disability advocacy initiatives, and working with various communities. I’ve learned how important representation, accessibility, and human connection are in healthcare. Financial support from LECOM has helped me make it possible to continue pursuing those passions while working towards my goal of becoming a physician.
LECOM has shown me that affordability in medical education creates opportunity. By reducing financial barriers, scholarships empower students to invest more fully in patient care, advocacy, and community service. Every day, I’m reminded why I decided to pursue medicine in the first place, to help patients feel seen, supported, and understood throughout the entirety of their healthcare journey.
Well, that’s my story. Thanks for watching.
