Segment #8 from Western New Mexico University

Transcript

Let’s all welcome, Natalee, a freshman who already feels welcome in this inclusive campus community. She has a love for both, art and nature that compliment each other so well. And WNMU makes it easy for students to combine all of their passions through academics, clubs and more. Natalee, tell us all about it.

– Thanks, Alex. And hello, everyone. I always knew I wanted to study art, but choosing the right college was a more challenging decision. I wanted a school that had a great art program, but was also affordable. I was also looking for an inclusive campus with a variety of clubs I could join right away. And that’s why Western New Mexico University is the perfect college for me. The art program at WNMU is extensive. You can take courses in a variety of mediums, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, ceramics, and graphic design. Every art class I take pushes me to new places. The art professor support and guide me to follow my dreams. I also quickly found the clubs I was looking for. I’m an active member of both, the campuses’ Queers and Allies Club and Horticulture Club. As a young queer person, WNMU supports me. From my classmates to my professors, I have been respected and heard. I feel supported in every aspect of myself when I meet with Queers and Allies weekly to discuss the campus, our community, our goals, and our dreams. I also enjoy how beautiful the campus is here. And through the Horticulture Club, I can help make this last. Western New Mexico University offers so many opportunities and majors. And each student gets to shape their academic journey to fit themselves. And along the way, the campus is full of wonderful communities that help us learn, dream and grow. Go mustangs. Throwing it back to you, Alex.

– Wow, Natalie. Working to enhance the beauty of your campus must be so rewarding. You’ll be leaving a legacy of greenery and inclusion behind after you graduate. It’s incredible how WNMU is committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion to ensure all students are seen and heard. We are so glad you found a place where you belong, Natalee. Take care.
