Clinical Training and Experiences with Maria
Segment #6 from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
Transcript
Hi, everyone. After earning my degree in neuroscience, I was not entirely certain what career path I wanted to pursue. Working in the emergency department in Elmira, New York, provided me firsthand exposure to healthcare, but it wasn’t until the opening of LECOM Elmira’s campus that I seriously considered becoming a physician.
Attending LECOM has afforded me unique opportunities, such as participation in a pre-match program, through which I was able to secure a position in emergency medicine without having to partake in the traditional match process. My experiences have strengthened my clinical skills, reinforced my commitment to serving diverse patient populations, and prepared me well for the next stages of my medical training.
LECOM is the largest and most applied to medical school in the United States. This institution has established strong relationships with healthcare systems across the country, providing students with many clinical training opportunities and connections to residency programs. LECOM Elmira’s close partnership with Arnot Ogden Medical Center has been valuable to my medical education by providing me exceptional clinical rotation experiences and, ultimately, my upcoming residency training in emergency medicine.
Training at LECOM has provided me with a strong clinical foundation, as well as supportive mentorship that has shaped my growth as a physician. My experiences throughout these four years have helped me build confidence, strengthen my clinical decision-making, and prepared me to step into residency and take on the responsibilities of a physician.
Thanks for letting me share my story.
