The Lecture-Discussion Pathway with Kayleigh

Segment #5 from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine

Transcript

Welcome. I’m incredibly grateful to share my journey with you today. My path to Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine was not traditional, and that’s what makes it so meaningful to me. Before medical school, I spent time teaching students while taking prerequisite courses and searching for the right path into healthcare.

Over time, my love for learning and helping others grew into a passion for medicine. That journey eventually led me to LECOM’s Master of Medical Science program, which became the bridge between where I started and where I wanted to go. The MMS program helped strengthen my academic foundation, prepare me for the rigor of medical school, and build my confidence to be a future physician.

One of the most valuable aspects of the program was the opportunity to experience LECOM’s different learning pathways. We explored lecture-based learning, problem-based learning through patient cases, and courses structured similarly to the lecture discussion pathway. Ultimately, I chose the lecture discussion pathway because I thrive in a structured environment.

Faculty lectures, hands-on labs, and small group tutorials all work together to reinforce the material and provide additional support when needed. The guidance from professors has helped me continue growing both academically and professionally. My journey has taught me that there’s no one single path into medicine.

Every experience, whether traditional or non-traditional, adds value and shapes the physician you become. Looking back, each step prepared me for where I am today, and I’m incredibly grateful that path led me to LECOM. Thanks for letting me share my story.
