Wellness Center & Community Life with Elaina
Segment #4 from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
Transcript
Hi there. From an early age, I wanted to be a physician, and when looking for a medical school, what immediately set Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine apart for me was the strength of its community. Movement and wellness have always been essential parts of my routine, which is why the LECOM Medical Fitness and Wellness Center has been an extraordinary resource for me.
The facility reflects the LECOM forward-thinking commitment to whole-person wellness. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I start my day long before sunrise. Whether I’m attending a yoga class, swimming laps, or spending a few quiet moments in the Zen garden, the wellness center provides balance to the rigors of medical training by supporting my physical and mental well-being.
I also relish the opportunity to connect with members of the Erie community who utilize the facility, demonstrating LECOM’s strong connection to the region it serves. An added bonus, it’s become one of my favorite hidden gems on campus to study with classmates. Dance has always been one of my greatest passions, both as a performer and an instructor, and LECOM’s strong ties to Erie’s performing arts community has allowed me to continue those passions in purposeful ways.
Dance provides balance to my academic journey while also strengthening the community engagement skills that will shape me into a more compassionate, well-rounded physician. My experiences have shown me that LECOM is not only a leader in medical education but also an institution deeply committed to producing capable, compassionate physicians who are prepared to make a meaningful impact in their communities.
Thanks for listening in.
