Inspired By Family, Dreams Take Flight with Nick

Segment #10 from Indiana State University

Transcript

Hi, everyone. I come from a family of teachers, and Indiana State University is a great school for educators, but I came here for aviation. My interest in aviation began at a young age, watching my cousin fly helicopters in the military. Later, that interest became a passion that has led me here. Indiana State has stellar aviation programs, but that’s not the only reason I became a Sycamore.

Class sizes range from 25 to 30 students, so I’m able to have personalized relationships with teachers. That makes me feel more comfortable here and strengthens my confidence in what I’m learning. Professors here actually want to know what’s going on in your life, and that makes you feel wanted and important.

I’ve connected with other aviation students by attending departments events and working dispatch at Indiana State University’s Flight Academy at the Terre Haute Regional Airport. From this, I’ve gained valuable ground experience with the industry in addition to the time I spend flying. I also felt honored to be invited to chair a student-led safety management initiative for our program.

I’m really proud to be the first person in my family to go into aviation. It’s great how quickly the department gets back to my parents whenever they have any questions. It makes things feel so much easier and really makes us feel supported in the program. Earning two related aviation degrees with course overlapping gives me career flexibility.

After graduation, I plan on earning my flight instructor certificate and pursuing a career in the commercial airlines. Thanks to Indiana State, I feel well-prepared to succeed in an exciting field that I’ve dreamt about since I was a kid, and I can’t wait to get started. I’ll see you guys in the sky.
