The Center for Community Engagement with Kylie

Segment #9 from Eastern Connecticut State University

Transcript

Let’s meet Kylie, a graduate student from Robinson, Illinois, who’s getting her master’s degree in accounting. Coming from a military family, Kylie found a home here at Eastern, where she pursued both her academic and personal goals, including a trip to the National Cheerleading Championships. So cool. It’s all yours, Kylie.

– Thanks, Alex. Moving from Illinois to Connecticut was a big change, and I struggled to find the right school for me. I wanted a place that challenged me academically while also supporting my personal growth. Eastern had the environment and the academics that I was looking for. I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Accounting, and I’m currently taking Eastern’s master’s program in accounting, which I’m really enjoying. Eastern’s small environment has been a huge advantage. It fosters close relationships with professors and classmates, which makes learning more engaging. The program offers internships and various networking events, like the Accounting Job Fair. These fantastic opportunities have allowed me to gain real-world experience and make valuable connections in the industry. I’ve also volunteered for the Center for Community Engagement. Each year, over 1,600 students volunteer, generating over 10,000 hours of donated time. Our programs range from one-off events like the Day of Caring to weekly commitments with the AmeriCorps and Big Brothers Big Sisters. As a member of Eastern’s Cheerleading Program, I found that clubs are another great way to meet friends and pursue interests, creating a strong sense of belonging where I never feel lost in a crowd. I moved here because my husband is in the Navy, and Eastern has helped me find an amazing support system while being so far away from home. I’m so glad that I found Eastern, as it provides a supportive community both academically and socially. I even had the chance to cheer for the first time in my life and compete at Nationals. The school has truly helped me grow and prepare for my future. Well, that’s all for my journey. Back to you, Alex.

– Kylie, your story of finding both academic and personal fulfillment here at Eastern is so inspiring. From cheering at the Nationals to excelling in your graduate studies, you’re a true example of the Warrior spirit. We know you’re gonna make a difference in the world no matter where you end up. Keep it up, Kylie. Thanks again.
