Carrying Mom’s Legacy Into the Classroom with Abby
Segment #2 from Indiana State University
Transcript
Hi, everyone. I’ve known I wanted to go to Indiana State University as an elementary education major since the second grade. That’s when I learned that my mom, who I’ve always looked up to, followed the path I’m on now. Following my mom’s legacy is special because I know I can be an amazing teacher like her.
From my first semester, I’ve been in an elementary classroom. The Ball College of Education has given me real-world, hands-on experience, and now I feel very prepared to lead my own classroom. But Indiana State has not only prepared me for my career through academics, I’ve also met my best friends here and experienced things I never expected to.
I had the opportunity to travel to Ireland on a faculty-led trip. We learned about Ireland’s customs and education system and were able to teach in their classrooms. It was an amazing experience I never would have had without Indiana State and Ball College. I’ve explored things outside of my degree and served my community.
I’ve worked for the campus newspaper, The Indiana Statesman, since my freshman year when I started as copy editor. I am now editor-in-chief living the Rory Gilmore dream. I manage a full staff and help find stories in the community to write about. I’ve become a strong, passionate teacher, and I’m taking advantage of opportunities and experiences.
I’ve been pushed out of my comfort zone and learned that I can grow. Indiana State University is the best choice I could have made. That’s my story. Thanks for watching.
