Academic Index Score and Early Acceptance Program with Daniel
Segment #16 from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
Transcript
Hey, everyone. Growing up, I watched my mom work as a nurse and become the person upon whom everyone relied during medical emergencies. Seeing the impact that compassionate, practical healthcare could have on people’s lives inspired me to pursue medicine. What drew me specifically to osteopathic medicine was its whole-body philosophy.
Osteopathic physicians combine a strong medical foundation with hands-on treatment through osteopathic and manipulative medicine, allowing us to care for our patients in a uniquely comprehensive way. One of the key reasons I chose Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine was the early acceptance program and its academic index score.
Rather than placing sole emphasis upon the MCAT, LECOM evaluated my academic potential through my high school GPA, SAT scores, and continued college performance. The AIS system promotes both accountability and student success by tailoring undergraduate GPA requirements to each student’s academic profile.
Throughout undergrad, LECOM also provided clear guidance on coursework and expectations, which made my transition into medical school a very smooth one. Having the MCAT waived completely changed my undergraduate experience. Instead of focusing upon test preparation and building the perfect application, I was able to pursue meaningful clinical experiences.
I worked as an EMT and as an ER technician, learning alongside emergency physicians and gaining firsthand exposure to patient care. Those experiences told me that medicine is exactly where I’m meant to be, and LECOM’s early acceptance program gave me the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally, while becoming the best physician that I can be.
Well, that’s my story, and thanks for watching.
