Board Scores with Kasey
Segment #17 from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
Transcript
Hey everyone, and welcome to LECOM. Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to pursue medicine. Growing up with a dad who’s an oral surgeon showed me firsthand the impact compassionate healthcare providers can have on patients in their communities. Watching him care for people inspired me to follow the same path.
One of the key reasons I chose Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine was the strong focus on board preparation from day one. The systems-based curriculum constantly reinforces high-yield concepts that appear on both COMLEX and USMLE exams. I was especially drawn to the cadaver-based anatomy program because it gives students the opportunity to see anatomical variation and disease processes firsthand.
Along with anatomy, LECOM emphasizes pathology, osteopathic manipulative medicine, and clinical reasoning through repetition and frequent assessments. I think this plays a major role in the school’s consistently strong board pass rates. LECOM also creates a collaborative learning environment that helps students succeed academically and professionally.
Through problem-based learning, we work through clinical cases together, strengthen our understanding of key concepts, and learn to apply information the way we’ll need to on boards and in patient care. Leadership opportunities within student organizations have also helped me to build connections and to grow outside the classroom.
Every experience here continues to confirm that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be. LECOM has given me the support and preparation needed to grow into the future physician I hope to become.
Thanks for listening.
