Club Diversity and Community Engagement with Tucker
Segment #12 from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
Transcript
Hi, everyone. Growing up in a small Appalachian town in Palmer, Ohio, I saw firsthand how important compassionate healthcare is to a community. Watching my mom work as a flight nurse at a young age inspired me to pursue medicine and become the kind of physician who can lead under pressure while still putting the patients first.
When I was searching for medical schools, I wanted a place where I could grow beyond the classroom and build those meaningful relationships while still staying involved in the community, and that’s exactly what I found here at LECOM. One of the things that I appreciate most is the wide variety of student organizations and leadership opportunities that are available here to the students.
I myself am involved in many student organizations focused on surgery, orthopedics, and sports medicine while also participating in outreach events that allow us to give back locally. One experience that has been especially meaningful to me is my volunteer work with Top Soccer, where we work with kids with different abilities to create an environment where they feel included and supported.
Through volunteer work, mentorship, and collaboration with both classmates and faculty, I’ve built friendships and professional connections that have made medical school feel like a true community. Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine’s campus culture encourages students to grow academically, personally, and professionally.
My experience here has taught me that medicine is about leadership, teamwork, service, and human connection, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given here, and I’m excited for what’s next.
Thanks for listening.
