Athletics with Macy
Segment #6 from Valley City State University
Transcript
Let’s catch up with Macy, a senior business student and member of the Viking volleyball team. Macy transferred to VCSU as a sophomore, drawn in by the supportive staff, successful volleyball program, the school’s reputation for being a great value. With nearly 300 varsity athletes and 15 different teams, athletics is an important part of VCSU’s campus life. The court is yours, Macy. Take it away.
– Thanks, Alex, and welcome to The Bubble. As a Viking student athlete, this is where we spend the majority of our time when we’re not working hard in the classroom. It’s quiet now, but on a game day, it fills up with students, faculty, and community members who love supporting their Viking athletes. The support from the community and faculty at Valley City State University is one of the main reasons I chose to transfer here my sophomore year. As soon as I arrived on campus, I was greeted by coaches and administration who are looking to help support me in my dreams of making an impact at my university. VCSU offers its students excellent financial aid. I ended up paying a fraction of the cost of my previous university, and the faculty helped me transfer all of my previous credits. This allowed me to maintain a manageable credit load while playing volleyball. As a student athlete, we maintain a busy schedule and miss some classes for travel, but VCSU’s faculty are great about supporting me to make sure I can still succeed. As a business student, I was looking for a way to gain more real-world experience while earning my degree. The faculty helped me find several internship opportunities here in Valley City and at home in Bismarck. Last spring, I worked with a local business as a management intern where I helped redesign the shop’s recipe book and created policies that were later combined into a new employee handbook. This is my last semester here at VCSU before I return home to Bismarck to find a position in the business industry. That means I get to enjoy one last semester with my friends, professors, coaches, and of course, my favorite teammates. Take it from here, Alex.
– Thank you, Macy. VCSU and its alumni take great pride in their sports teams and recently invested more than $12 million into an expansion of the athletic facilities. Viking student athletes are also known for excelling in the classroom, on campus, and in the community. We’re all wishing you the best, Macy. Take care.
