Famous and Notable Alumni with Liza

Segment #6 from Tyler Junior College - TJC

Transcript

Curious about where a TJC education can take you? Meet Liza, a sophomore from Illinois majoring in General Studies. She’s here to share how TJC’s impressive alumni from the deputy director of the CIA to Olympic Gold medalists and Grammy winners inspired her journey. With a legacy like that, the possibilities here are endless. Liza, please take it away.

– Thanks, Alex. TJC was an obvious choice for me when I graduated high school, because it was close to home and affordable. Since I was little, my interest has been peaked through the arts, but TJC’s General Studies Program allowed me to pursue all my emerging interests. TJC has been instrumental in giving me unexpected experiences and leadership roles. The small class sizes and intimate student body allow me to make connections with passionate professors, who enable me to connect the classroom with real world experiences. From starting my own podcast to creating poetry, my dreams are ignited here just like the notable alumni who have come before me. I know I can follow in their footsteps and go from TJC to almost anywhere. Grammy winning Christian artists Chris Tomlin wrote hit songs like “Our God,” and “Indescribable,” but he started right here at TJC. Shea Whigham was a tennis player who changed his focus from the court to the stage after being cast in a show at TJC. You know him as Eli in “Boardwalk Empire.” Jimmy Butler went from playing basketball for TJC to becoming an NBA star and Olympic gold medalist. The legend Will Jennings won a roomful of Academy Awards. Grammys, and other honors for numerous songs, including “My Heart Will Go On,” from the movie “Titanic.” Will wrote that song and many more. Texas State Senator Brian Hughes started right here at TJC and Admiral Bobby Inman, who led the National Security Agency and CIA deputy director rode a bus from Mineola to attend TJC. These are only a few of the many successful Apaches who have experienced the diverse breadth of support and caring professors who nurture the interest and skills of each student who comes here? TJC ignited my dreams and now, it’s your turn. Feathers up and back to you, Alex.

– Thanks, Liza. TJC’s renowned alumni showcase the limitless potential of a TJC education. Who wouldn’t be inspired? Their success proves that with the right support and determination, TJC can help you achieve your dreams. Choosing TJC means opening doors to incredible opportunities and success. Thanks again for sharing your story.
