Meet Vivian, a senior from Malibu, California, majoring in High Performance Motorsports Technology and heading onto a bachelor’s degree in marketing. At UNOH, hands-on learning is more than a promise. It’s a daily reality led by industry pros. Vivian’s story illustrates why UNOH grads stand out in competitive industries. Vivian, take us under the hood.

– Thanks, Alex. What’s up, guys? When I was growing up, I always learned best by doing, and so I wanted to find a university that was centered on a hands-on education, and that’s exactly what I found here at UNOH. When I was younger, I remember watching my dad build his custom projects and hot rods, and that inspired me to get my first project car at 14, a 1995 Mazda Miata, that I’ve been building into a fully fledged race car ever since I started here at UNOH. Hands-on education is at the core of everything we do here, and that’s exactly what drew me to UNOH. I start in the classroom learning the theory behind systems and techniques, and then head straight into the shop to apply it myself. That immediate transition from learning to doing makes everything click so much faster. You’re not just memorizing concepts. You’re building muscle memory, working through problems in real time, and seeing how things actually work under your own hands. Whether it’s tearing down an engine, setting up suspension, or welding parts, every lesson becomes tangible. What makes this experience even more valuable is the faculty guiding us every step of the way. Our instructors bring years of industry knowledge and real-world experience. They’re always there, inside and outside the classroom, offering us help and advice. They genuinely want to see us succeed in class and in our future careers. Learning hands-on with their guidance helps students become real pros in the industry after they graduate. It’s not just preparation, it’s experience, and that’s what sets UNOH apart. After finishing my technical degree, I’m going to continue my journey here and get my Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing. With everything I’ve learned here, I know that my career options after graduation are endless, and I’m excited to see what the next few years here at UNOH will hold, and that’s my lap.
