Let’s meet Sabrina, a graduate student whose journey at CUW exemplifies the seamless fusion of professional and personal passions. Navigating the leap from undergraduate to graduate studies is rigorous for anyone. CUW makes the transition seamless with accelerated bachelor’s to master’s programs in business, pharmacy, athletic training, and health professions. Sabrina, tell us how the Accelerated Occupational Therapy Program prepared you to excel. Take it away.
– Thanks, Alex. Hi, you guys. I had my first exposure to occupational therapy when I was in middle school and my dad was diagnosed with cancer. The OTs that were working with him treated him with kindness, and more importantly, they had faith in him, and that’s when I knew what I wanted to do with my life, and Concordia University had everything I was looking for, and so much more. I’ve always been passionate about healthcare and the occupational therapy program has been a game changer. I’m taking classes that allow me to explore anatomy, physiology, medicine, and healthcare as a whole. One of the coolest things I’ve ever experienced is Concordia’s Cadaver Lab. This hands-on experience has allowed me to explore the human body and learn how to apply that understanding to helping people in the future. The hands-on Learning combined with the fully equipped Labs has truly helped me grow as a student. Plus, CUW offers an accelerated bachelor to doctor track for occupational therapy, which allows me to begin my dream career sooner. One of the highlights of the OT program is working alongside faculty and peers in Concordia’s interprofessional clinic. Here, I’m gaining practical experience delivering comprehensive patient care. This hands-on education sharpened my clinical skills and deepened my understanding of patient-centered care. My friends in the CUW faculty have been incredibly supportive, which makes balancing grad school, multiple campus jobs, and participating in college athletics a little easier. My experience has pushed me to accomplish more than I ever thought was possible, and for that, I’m forever grateful to Concordia. I plan to carry on my dad’s legacy by advocating for healthcare, encouraging healthy behaviors, and showing kindness to individuals that may be underserved. That’s my story. Back to you, Alex.
– Wow, Sabrina. That was incredible. CUW’s commitment to a holistic education prepares graduate students like you to be skilled professionals, visionary leaders, and empathetic caregivers. In fostering an uncommon environment where students thrive academically, spiritually, and socially, CUW ensures graduates are well equipped to handle the complexities of healthcare with a deep rooted sense of community service. Thanks again.
For Luke, Concordia has always been a family tradition. This is where his parents and three older siblings attended college. However, Concordia’s commitment to helping individuals reach their potential helped Luke forge his own unique path, harmonizing his passion for music and ministry. Luke, tell us how you found your voice in a legacy of Lutheran education.
– Thanks, Alex. Hey, everyone. Growing up, I was always hanging out around Concordia. All of my siblings were students here, and even as a high schooler, I was welcomed by their professors and friends. My college decision was pretty easy, because for me, Concordia was and still is a home. As a freshman with a love for theology, music, and theater, I didn’t know which to focus on. The good news was, at Concordia, I could do all three. As a theologian, I study with Lutheran pastor professors who are some of the humblest, most devoted, most Christ-centered scholars in the world. My professors have truly helped me enrich my Christian voice, and within my major, I’ve been able to enrich my voice voice. CUW’s supportive nurturing music program has me flourishing as a vocalist while also learning skills that will help me grow as a composer, music director, and conductor. As a member of the Kammerchor Choir, I’ve formed some amazing friendships and CUW theater’s award-winning program has warmly embraced me as a co-curricular participant. As a theater student ambassador, I aid in program prayer, planning, and leadership. It was through performing with my theater family and singing in the rain that I rediscovered the joy of serving through performance. Concordia’s liberal arts focus empowers students to pursue their passions across various disciplines. Students of all majors participate in theater and music, getting to hone their artistry under our expert faculty, who demonstrate commitment to the success and wellbeing of their students. At Concordia, my professors in music, theology, and theater are passionate experts in their fields and put students first. Our close-knit Christian community supports you as a learner and nurtures you into a better human being. That’s why here, I feel at home. Back to you, Alex.
– Thank you, Luke. Your story is a testament to individual growth and finding one’s voice in the chorus of possibilities at CUW. At Concordia University, Wisconsin, students like Luke are empowered to live uncommon lives, blending their talents with their faith to make an impact far beyond the classroom. Thanks again, Luke.
Say hello to Miranda, a first generation college student majoring in math education. CUW’s deep commitment to combining faith with learning highlights the university’s unique approach to nurturing academically proficient and spiritually enriched students. Miranda embodies the essence of CUW’s mission, utilizing her education to inspire and serve others. Tell us more, Miranda.
– Hey, everyone. As a Hispanic American first generation college student, my parents always taught me the value of education. I knew I needed to find a school that could support my uncommon ambitions, and Concordia University was the answer. As a student, I have been able to continue to develop a close knit community with peers and professors who make me feel valued and understood. These relationships have helped me thrive as a first generation student. I have people here who reach out to me, guide me through challenges, care about my achievements, and support my faith. Having recently been baptized LCMS, Concordia’s commitment to faith is deeply important to me. Through daily chapel and Bible study groups, I have been able to continue to learn and grow both in my faith and academics. My dream to become a math teacher stems from my desire to advocate for possibilities within STEM fields, especially in the Latino community. I aspire to be a role model for other first generation students, demonstrating that with perseverance and dedication, any goal is achievable. Concordia equips its students to build relationships with people from all different backgrounds. I’m a member of Latino Student Union, which gives me a platform to share my culture with my peers. I love hanging out with my friends and sharing my heritage with them as we play , and they’ve all tried my favorite childhood treats, . Celebrating these traditions with others fosters a sense of pride for me and my community. Concordia has taught me so much that goes beyond a textbook. Here, I have a community and I’m celebrated for who I am. As a future teacher, I plan to create a supportive environment for my students in the classroom and beyond, just as Concordia has done for me. Back to you, Alex.
– Miranda, thank you for sharing your journey with us and demonstrating the powerful impact of living one’s faith through education. Your path inspires first generation students and future educators, proving that anything is possible with faith and a supportive college community. Thanks again and take care.
It’s time to meet Lucas, a baseball player who’s in an engineering program that encourages students to make a difference through innovation. Applying practical lessons from his coursework and internship, Lucas had the opportunity to create something special to help people in his community. Lucas, tell us how the CUW engineering program has helped you have a real world impact. Take it away.
– Thanks, Alex. Hey, everyone. Growing up, I always chased after challenges. My decision to attend Concordia University gave me an opportunity to do just that. Here, I major in industrial engineering, minor in computer science, and I’m a student athlete. I knew CUW would be the best place for me to develop and merge my passion for innovation with a desire to make a difference in the world. From the beginning, the faculty made me feel comfortable with their warm smiles and sharp minds. Immersing myself into the culture of innovation and inspiration was easy. It’s in all aspects of campus life, from the dynamic classroom discussions to the cutting edge research projects, which I’m already taking advantage of. I worked on a project with Penfield Children’s Hospital where they challenged us to create a cost-effective adaptive toy for children with varying abilities. In collaboration with the Makerspace on campus, we designed a therapeutic device in our lab that fits specific needs. This hands-on experience was a deep dive into applying engineering principles to solve real world challenges. Through this project, I learned my sense of purpose, to help people. The real world opportunities I’ve had here are the center of what engineering at CUW is all about. One of the best feelings as a student is knowing you have a support system behind you. Thanks to one of my professors, I secured a robotics internship at a leading tech firm. This opportunity exposed me to invaluable professional knowledge and provided me career advantages that shaped my academic and professional journey. I’ve already been able to make a meaningful impact on my community, and as I look to the future, I’m excited about the possibilities. I’m grateful for my CUW experience and eager to see where this engineering path will lead me. Back to you, Alex.
Lucas, your experience illustrates how CUW’s engineering program transcends traditional boundaries, integrating academic excellence with real world applications. Thanks, Lucas, for demonstrating how CUW engineers make a meaningful difference.
From a dairy farm in small town Wisconsin to Concordia’s pre-med program, Amber is among the many students who come to CUW for its excellent reputation in healthcare education with popular nursing, pharmacy, athletic training, physical therapy, and pre-health professional programs, a unique approach to education prepares students to lead with faith and compassion. Amber, tell us how the supportive Christian environment has shaped your journey.
– Thanks, Alex. Welcome, everyone. I first discovered the world of health sciences while working on a science fair project with my dad. Growing up on a farm, he taught me all about animals and their genetics. That’s when the idea of becoming a doctor solidified in my mind. Plus, my mom is a proud alum, so when she told me about Concordia Universities biomedical science major, I was sold. CUW has been the perfect fit for me because of its academic, athletic, and spiritual opportunities. I grew up in the Lutheran church, so I love being a part of a healthcare program that teaches us how we can integrate our faith into our future vocations. As a future doctor, I want to help people in need, so being able to practice my faith in the classroom has been very meaningful to me. I’m also able to make genuine relationships with my professors and classmates. This kind of community sets CUW apart from other healthcare programs. On campus, I’m involved in student ministry and a member of the track and field team, which has really enriched my college experience outside of the classroom, but the most impactful part of my time here has been my research project on leukemia, where I work with mouse cells. Under the guidance of my faculty advisor, I’m learning laboratory skills, discovering more about genetics, and earning a research certificate right here on campus. Experiential learning exemplifies the unique opportunities students expect to receive here. If you’re seeking a place that offers academic excellence, spiritual growth, and a tight-knit community, it’s right here. Concordia has given me opportunities in all aspects of my life and it’s prepared me for my next adventure, medical school. God’s blessings and let’s go CU Dub. Back to you, Alex.
– Thank you, Amber. Your story embodies what healthcare education at Concordia University of Wisconsin is all about, excellence, empathy, and the unwavering belief in service to humanity. Let’s carry forward the inspiration from these stories of dedication, faith, and transformative education. Take care, Amber.
Let’s meet Maddie. Not only is she on track to complete her bachelor’s and MBA in four years, but she also has multiple internships, plays on the basketball team, and started her own business, all before graduation. She exemplifies CUW’s commitment to professional readiness and support through rigorous academics and real world experiences. Maddie, tell us how CUW has paved the way for your future.
– Thanks, Alex. I chose Concordia University after taking a tour and seeing all the opportunities on campus. Over the last four years, these opportunities have shaped my academic and professional journey in ways I’ve never imagined. The prestigious Business Scholars Program is the cornerstone of my experience at CUW. This unique program allows me to earn both my bachelor’s degree and my MBA at the same time in just four years. While these degrees are incredibly valuable, the experiences I’m gaining through coursework and internships sets this program apart. In my time here, I’ve had four internships in the sports industry, one of which allowed me to combine my love for basketball with my major by working with Moolah Kicks, the number one women’s basketball brand. Being so close to Milwaukee and all its professional sports played a huge role in landing my internship over the summer with Good Karma brands. Through these internships, I gained experience in marketing execution, partner acquisition, and content creation strategies. I obtained new skills and knowledge that directly contributed to my success and led to a full-time job offer before graduation. The encouragement and support from CUW continues beyond internships. During my senior year, I launched my own freelance marketing company, which specializes in digital marketing solutions. I’ve already seen tremendous success, generating over 10 million social media impressions for a major client. My dreams of having my own company are now reality thanks to the guidance and resources from the CUW faculty, who are truly committed to nurturing future business owners. Looking back at my time at Concordia, I’m grateful for my growth in mind, body, and spirit. The opportunities I’ve had to learn, lead, and serve have prepared me for the next chapter of my life, wherever God leads. Back to you, Alex.
– Wow, Maddie. It was great to hear how CUW’s emphasis on internships and hands-on experiences directly led to job offers and entrepreneurial success. With a focus on professional readiness, faculty advisors from across six academic schools, CUW students are empowered to do internships, lead initiatives, and succeed in their chosen fields. Thanks, Maddie.
Time to introduce Rianda, a third year medical student whose experience shows the kind of support systems that are in place here to ensure every student, not only graduates, but thrives at this graduate school. Over to you, Rianda.
– Thanks, Alex. Hey, everyone. When I started off here as a single parent mom trying to become a doctor, Touro University of Nevada was super supportive of me. They were very helpful every step of the way. I am now in my third year of the osteopathic medicine program and I can honestly just say there’s a real connection between the students and the faculty. My experience gave me hope, and because of that, I decided to continue learning here. It’s also helpful that the school is very close to my family. The convenience of being in Henderson means I have easy access to my support system and can balance being a student, doctor and a proud mommy to my daughter, Peyton. Our campus community extends beyond the students. We have programs from families and significant others such as the Plus One Program that provides support to family members and those closest to us. My time here at Touro Nevada has been filled with opportunities and priceless experiences. I’ve been the president of one of our service clubs here on campus, Student National Medical Association and coordinated community outreach projects for students. I’m learning from an exceptional faculty of physicians as I interact with and understand how to treat patients in the clinical setting. I’m turning theory into practice, which helped me figure out which specialization I’m most interested in. Touro university. Nevada delivers a near 100% match and placement rate, meaning our dedicated faculty helps medical school students get highly sought after residency that are crucial elements to practicing medicine. It’s been a challenging journey, but I know the rewarding part lies ahead. Following graduation, I plan on working as an emergency medicine resident at an inner city hospital and continuing my journey of being a mommy in medicine. That’s all for me. Take it back. Alex
– Rianda, you hit the nail on the head. Turning theory into practice is what being a medical student here is all about. Touro Nevada was founded to address the critical need for more physicians in southern Nevada and you are a testament to that focus. That was fantastic. Thanks again.
Now let’s meet Rebecca, a nursing student who’s making a mark within her family history. Students follow all kinds of different paths to get here and Touro Nevada’s nursing program is mostly remote, meaning students can positively change their lives while keeping their zip code. Rebecca, let’s hear all about it.
– Thank you so much, Alex. Hi everyone, I grew up in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood in southern California. My mother and father never went to college and I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do as a career, but I did know I wanted more for myself and eventually I found Touro University in Nevada. There are so many colleges offering online degrees, but Touro Nevada stood out because of their transparency. After much research, I enrolled in their registered nurse to bachelor’s of science and nursing program. I knew exactly which classes I was going to take, when and how much it was gonna cost. The faculty are so supportive. Even though it is all online, I never felt alone. If I had a question, I would email my professors and I’d get answers right away. I remember I was struggling with the community project and my professor got on the phone with me right away on a Sunday morning without hesitation and helped me through it. It was reassuring to know that I am in good hands and I will succeed, and yes, I did get an A on that project. I’m having such great experiences here. I earned my bachelor of science and nursing degree and also attended legislative days in the state capital to discuss healthcare issues. I was with other students from Touro becoming doctors, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. You see, I didn’t just choose a school, I chose a community and a family. My family is so proud. I’m getting my master’s to become a family nurse practitioner here at Touro and it only takes 20 months. I wanna work in the rural towns of southern Nevada and help the communities that have little access to healthcare. Well, that’s all about me. Back to you, Alex.
– Rebecca, thank you for showing how Touro Nevada provides different opportunities for working professionals to advance their promising career. You are an ambassador of belief showing the power it has to make a difference. That was fantastic. Thanks again.
Let’s meet Christopher, a first year occupational therapy doctorate student whose journey to Touro took him halfway around the world. He’s bringing that experience to Touro Nevada where everything can be found under one roof in a facility that includes things like a multimedia production studio. This is where students enhance their experiences by creating videos for professors and faculty record instructional materials. You are up.
– Thanks, Alex. I’m a first year occupational therapy doctorate student here at Touro University of Nevada. I come from a family of medical professionals. Touro University of Nevada is a dynamic institution and its programs in healthcare and education drew me in. Before attending Touro I worked throughout Asia as an educator for more than a decade. Coming from that background, I understand the importance of setting the highest standards and access to state-of-the-art facilities. I found all of this at Touro Nevada. For the mind and body, we have a complete wellness center. There’s a weight and cardio equipment room plus a dance and yoga studio. It’s great to break a sweat when you need rest from the books. While in class, we have access to some of the latest technology like our anatomized table. That really helps us explore anatomy in 3D. Occupational therapy classrooms are well equipped with tools to simulate interventions. This is how we learn to best help patients with activities of daily living. Our study and breakout rooms include wireless screen casting and video conferencing capabilities to make collaboration simple. Our learning center’s 3D printers make bones and body parts so you can even hold a human skull. These medical and student facilities are really helping me succeed. Henderson, Nevada is a safe city and Touro does a great job at creating a secure and safe learning environment. Everything is under one roof, one building. After Touro, I intend on staying in Nevada. There’s a growing need for healthcare providers here. There are a lot of opportunities for high paying careers in occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing, physician assistant, and osteopathic medicine. There’s no better place to prepare than at Touro University of Nevada. Back to you, Alex.
– Christopher’s journey illuminates Touro University Nevada’s innovative healthcare education. From state-of-the-art facilities to extensive social opportunities, Touro shines. His story of growth and discovery inspires. Thanks for joining us in this insightful segment. Christopher, your journey is truly inspiring. Thanks again.
Let’s hear from Julienne, a first year DO student in the College of Osteopathic Medicine who has found her voice at Touro Nevada through the rich offering of cultural organizations and events that are working to address healthcare disparities, celebrating diversity in helping to ensure all students have a place at Touro Nevada. The floor is yours, Julienne.
– Thanks Alex. Hi, everyone. Growing up as a first generation student from a single parent household on Medicaid, I knew I wanted to help tackle the barriers of healthcare disparities by becoming a future physician. When I first applied to medical school, I was waitlisted and didn’t get accepted. Instead, I attended Touro University of Nevada’s Medical Health Sciences Master’s program, proved I can succeed in graduate level coursework and was accepted to medical school the following year. Now that I’ve made it into the College of Osteopathic Medicine program, I really appreciate the commitment the school has shown to students like me. By joining a diverse range of student organizations like the inTUN Acapella Group and the Literacy Collective Volunteer Group, I have created a home away from home. I’m immersing myself in tons of activities like singing to the elderly, reading to elementary school children and other events like walking the MLK parade with students and faculty. The active student organizations are a large part of why I chose to stay at Touro Nevada for medical school. Touro Nevada has so many different organizations that create professional networking, service and volunteer opportunities for everyone. There are cultural clubs, passion clubs, intramural sports, volunteering, and opportunities for research. Students can further enhance their experiences here through the extensive programming offered by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion such as their lunch and learn mental health and wellness presentations. Touro is committed to offering many different ways in which students can create community. The active student organizations and events at Touro Nevada consistently remind me that medicine is both an art as well as a science. The art includes empathy, compassion, and communication, all of which makes students great well-rounded individuals. Although school and grades are the priority, it is important to never lose sight of your other passions and personality. Back to you, Alex.
– Wow. Julienne, you and students like you are who we need to ensure great healthcare professionals are meeting the needs of communities everywhere. That includes right here on campus at Touro Nevada’s own health center, a medical practice where students can work to serve the community during their clinical training. Thanks again.
