Student Clubs at UNOH with Eric

Let’s introduce Eric, also known in the drifting world as Ricky Rips. Eric is a recent graduate who studied automotive technology and high performance motorsports. Clubs at UNOH are more than just hobbies. They’re pathways to real industry experience. From starting the university’s very first drift club to changing tires at pit crew practice, Eric found his passion and his people. Eric, take it away.

– Thanks, Alex. I came to UNOH all the way from Colchester, Connecticut. Cars haven’t always been in my life, but things that go fast and create adrenaline have. I got into cars when I was 14, and since then, it has progressed, leading me to UNOH to learn how to design and build race cars. Once I got to campus, I met many like-minded people. I made new friends and made connections that I’ll have for a lifetime. Not knowing what type of racing I fit into yet, I explored a handful of clubs and quickly met my people. I got introduced to drifting through students involved in these clubs and quickly became close friends. We worked on drift cars day and night. Soon enough, we found ourselves all working together to put together the first-ever university-sponsored Drift Club. Thanks to the school’s support for students finding their passion, we’re able to partner with professional drift teams, which can lead to jobs immediately after graduation. What other school can you go to and drive your own car on their personal test pad? And Drift Club isn’t the only one. There are many other clubs with perks tailored to their interests. There’s Off-Road Club, Drag Club, Over-The-Wall Club, which focuses specifically on pit crew skills. Outside of racing, There’s clubs for boxing, eSports, agriculture. You name it, it’s here, and with many doorways to professional connections that students can only find at UNOH No matter your major, whether it’s diesel, accounting, robotics, motorsports, marketing, or high performance, like me, you’ll find what you’re passionate about, enjoy yourself, and gain tons of experience all at the same time.
