Segment #5 from Tyler Junior College - TJC
Transcript
Joining us now is Emily, a second year theater student at TJC. She’s here to share how TJC’s vibrant Performing Arts Program and student life create incredible opportunities beyond the classroom. From stage productions to campus events, Emily is making the most of her college experience. Ready to hear how TJC brings the spotlight to students. Take it away, Emily.
– Thanks, Alex. Hi, everyone. As I was finishing high school, I wasn’t sure where I wanted to go to continue my education. I didn’t wanna go to a massive university or something too far from home. I then toured Tyler Junior College and fell in love with the campus and its people. TJC offers lots of activities outside the classroom for students to get involved. For instance, on campus housing is a great way to meet new people, get used to being independent, and hear about events on campus. I lived in the dorms my first year and I loved it. There are also lots of student organizations to participate in. I am part of Las Mascaras Speech & Drama Club, the oldest active social organization on campus. We hold tons of events including the kickoff party, venues, and picnics. TJC also has plenty of sports teams to support like football, basketball, tennis, and more. If you want to get involved, consider signing up for campus traditions. Homecoming Week is packed full of these. One example is the drum beat. The drum is hit 24 hours a day for the week. One year, I got to beat the drum for a while. It was a blast. Being a part of the events here at TJC has made my time much more enjoyable and memorable. Without branching out and attending these things, I wouldn’t have made the friends that I have. I must applaud TJC for all the events, organizations, and activities that are held. Without these, students wouldn’t have the friends or fun they have now. I, for one, am very grateful for the time that I’ve spent here. Handing the mic back over to you, Alex.
– Wow, Emily. It’s amazing how many ways TJC helps students get involved, meet new people, and build lasting friendships from cheering on to Apache Athletics to enjoying events like Homecoming and Spring Fling, or joining one of the 40 plus student clubs. TJC truly something for everyone. Thank you for sharing your experiences, Emily. That was great.
