Segment #10 from Tyler Junior College - TJC

Transcript

Let’s catch up with Cheyenne, a TJC Presidential Honors Scholarship Recipient who graduated from the Physical Therapy Assistant Program and now works full-time at the college. Cheyenne’s story is all about the financial support that is available to all who enroll at TJC. Tell us more, Cheyenne. Take it away.

– Thanks, Alex. I chose Tyler Junior College because I wanted to cheer at the collegiate level, stay close to home, and pursue a degree in physical therapy. Community college wasn’t my first choice, but TJC programs and scholarships ultimately won me over and I am so thankful that I made that decision. After graduating third in my high school class, I was awarded the Presidential Honors Scholarship. It’s a first pay scholarship covering tuition and fees before other financial aid, and included a housing stipend to stay on the honors floor where I was surrounded by other high achieving students that motivated me to excel. I also received a scholarship for making the cheer team. Once I was accepted into the Physical Therapist Assistant Program, the department chair applied for and secured another scholarship on my behalf, which meant so much to me. Financial support is available to all who enroll at TJC. Each year, more than $48 million is awarded in grants, loans, scholarships, waivers, exemptions, work study, and financial aid to assist students in covering the cost of their education. My best advice, don’t assume you aren’t eligible. The PTA Program at TJC was incredibly hands-on and supportive. By the end of clinical rotations, I was offered a full-time job and started working immediately after graduation. TJC prepares students for success and scholarships allowed me to focus on academics without financial stress. I maintained a 4.0 GPA and graduated summa laude with presidential honors. That foundation gave me the confidence and preparation to thrive in school and in my career. Because TJC truly inspired me, I returned to coach the cheer team and work in student life. My motto to motivate those around me. Let’s go Apaches. We love it here. I hope you guys love it here too. Back to you, Alex.

– Thank you, Cheyenne, for sharing the incredible financial support available for TJC students. More than $48 million annually awarded for grants, loans, scholarships, and more. Truly amazing. And your advice to students is great. Students don’t assume you aren’t eligible, try. Continue your great work at the college, Cheyenne, and thanks again for sharing your story.
